WAP - Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion

A song about women talking about wet pussy is breaking the internet. The lyrics focused on vivid sexual imagery and the pleasure of women. There were many things to unpack in the lyrics. Men can learn a lot about heterosexual attraction and taking care of a women through this song if they are open to it. An interesting topic of discussion has come from my friends and social circles over the last couple of months. A lot of people being locked in quarantine have been super couped up and horny. The timing of this song could not have been any better. People are actively shopping around for good sex before an inevitable quarantine time period and cuffing season. Having good sex keeps everyone sane during these times.

A major theme in this song is a focus on the fact that all humans, not just men, are sexual beings. As a heterosexual male, it is applauded when men talk about the amount of women they sleep with. It shouldn’t be then hypocritically shamed the sexuality of women. They want to have fun like any other human on this planet. If this song makes you uncomfortable, you have bad sex LOL.

The song was produced by Ayo and Keyz. Ayo and Keyz have consistently given us bops and dance hits for decades with a collaboration list that includes Chris Brown, Bryson Tiller, K Michelle, Wiz Khalifa, Diddy, and Rick Ross. The song has a great bounce to it. It gives a strong pressence and the women do a great job of riding the beat and being emphatic in their deliveries. The production of the song evokes a slightly wet atmosphere and the percussions sounded soft. I do think the song could have benefitted from exploring the idea of what it means to be wet a little bit more sonically. The beat definitely was emphatic and fun with a bunch of bounce, but it could have explored the sensual side of being wet a bit more.

Some of the lyrics that stuck out to me in the song were the following:

Whores in this house

There’s some whores in this house

There’s some whores in this house

There’s some whores in this house (Hol’ up)

I said certified freak, seven days a week

Wet-ass pussy, make that pullout game weak, woo (Ah)

There was some interesting video imagery for sure. A lot of feline imagery associated with cheetahs and white tigers. This shows a strong feminine energy. Kylie Jenner was also in this video for an interesting bridge section of silence within the video. It was interesting for sure. Using her as a representation of sexuality within this video was intriguing. In the rest of the video there were a variety of scenes with vibrant colors.
